REINFORCEMENT LESSON 3: Monday, 1st June

Good morning everyone!

I hope you've had some time to rest and catch up with you work. 



IMPORTANT: In the entry below, you've got a link to a document with the CONTENTS you need to revise for your retake exam. On that document, you can also find links to explanations and activities that will help you revise for your exam.


Let's do some revision activities. Follow these steps:

1) As we have already revised all verb tenses, we're going to do a mock exam to check our knowledge.  Click HERE to get the test. 

            When you finish, take a photo/a screenshot of your result and your answers and send it to my email, please.


2) Revise the vocabulary in UNIT 2: Technology (pages 20 and 22 of your book) / Adjectivies and Prepositions. 
    - Do all the vocabulary activities in your INTERACTIVE WEBBOOK. 


Remember that you can do more activities on your own to help you revise for your exam!!!

2) A For and Against Essay.
   - Revise how to write a  For and Against Essay (page 28/ 167 of your book/ or on this LINK
  
   - Write a FOR and Against Essay of between 120-150 words on the following statement:
         Advantages and Disadvantages of learning from home 
                                                                                       (Do it in a word document and send it to my mail)

REINFORCEMENT LESSON 2: Tuesday, 26th May

Good morning everyone!

I hope you're not having problems getting access to your webbooks using the new activation codes.
 I also hope you find the activities useful to help you revise for your exam in June.
 Remember that doing the activities will not only give you practise but it will also help me decide your final mark.


Let's begin with our revision lesson today. Follow these steps:


1) Le't begin by revising  the VOCABULARY in UNIT 1: 
    A) Vocabulary on COMMUNICATION:  You need to make a list with the words in  blue on pages 6 and 8 of your book. 
      - Get to your "INTERACTIVE BOOK" and have a look at the VOCABULARY PREVIEW
     You can revise the vocabulary there:

- Now you can do some vocabulary activities in the INTERACTIVE BOOK: activities 1,3,10

- Click HERE to find another interesting activity to practise with this vocabulary.



B) NOUN SUFFIXES:  On page 8 of your book, you have an activity about noun suffixes and on page 12 you've got some information about ADJECTIVE SUFFIXES. Revise these activities and then do  activites:  4,5,7,8,9 in THE INTERACTIVE BOOK

     Click HERE if you need  some more help and practice. 


2) HOMEWORK: As we haven't got a lesson on Friday (It is a local holiday in Cordoba), you've got plenty of time to do these activities: 
  
     - Activities on the GRAMMAR LAB page 126-127 (You can do the activities on your online book or you can write the answers in your notebook) 

   - UNIT 2 GRAMMAR: FUTURE PERFECT / FUTURE CONTINUOUS
        a) Have a look at the grammar tutor (watch the video) and the grammar appendix in your INTERACTIVE BOOK. 
        b) Do the grammar activities (unit 2) on the INTERACTIVE BOOK. 


DEADLINE TO MEET: Please, make sure you have all these activites done before Saturday, 30th.

OPTIONAL: You can do some listening and reading practice in your Student's book online and do some more revision activities to get ready for your exam in June.

REINFORCEMENT LESSONS: 1. Monday, 25th May

Good morning!

Welcome to our revision lessons. Today we're going to start revising VERB TENSES (UNIT 1)

1- Present Simple/ Continuous
2- Past Simple /Continuous
3- Present Perfect Simple /Continuous
4- Future: Will / Going to



1)  We are going to use the WEBBOOKS to revise:
      - Click HERE to get access to the webbook. (If you haven't registered yet, you need to do so)
        
                 Find some help in this VIDEO on how to do it. 

IMPORTANTE: Vas a tener acceso a tres libros.
1) AN INTERACTIVE BOOK / 2) YOUR STUDENT’S BOOK ONLINE/ 3) a GRADED READER

1) En el INTERACTIVE BOOK:  En cada unidad vas a encontrar - la lista de  vocabulario,  videos con explicaciones gramaticales ( el grammar tutor) y el grammar appendix donde encuentras explicaciones gramaticales en español- de cada unidad.  También tienes actividades de gramática y vocabulario.

2) El STUDENT’S BOOK ONLINE, es simplemente tu libro de texto. Puedes usarlo para repasar actividades ya hechas o hacer actividades que no se han hecho aún.  En las páginas 126-134 encontrarás un repaso gramatical de cada unidad, con actividades.

3) GRADED READER: Tienes a tu disposición Pride and Prejudice, adaptado.  Puedes leerlo si tienes tiempo o te apetece.
    

2) WORK TO DO
             -  INTERACTIVE BOOK: UNIT 1

Si habéis leído la información colgada en drive acerca de cómo se va a desarrollar el final de curso, (ENLACE), sabéis que a partir del lunes, 23 de mayo vamos a dedicar las clases especialmente  a actividades de repaso, refuerzo y recuperación para aquellos/as de vosotros/as que tenéis suspensas la 1ª y 2ª evaluación (UNIDADES 1- 4).  El 18 de junio tendréis un examen de esas unidades.  ES MUY IMPORTANTE QUE TRABAJÉIS PARA PODER RECUPERAR.
Esta es, por tanto, la última semana de clase común para todos.

En cuanto a los que tenéis la 1ª y 2ª evaluación aprobadas:  os mandaré un correo a final de esta semana con vuestros resultados –teniendo en cuenta las notas de 1er y 2º trimestre y todo el trabajo realizado desde casa durante el 3er trimestre.  En el correo os proporcionaré información acerca de qué podéis hacer en inglés a partir de la semana próxima.

MONDAY, 18th MAY

Good morning everyone!

I hope you  had some time to rest at the weekend and are ready to work now. Let's get down to work. 


Let's follow these steps: 

1) We are going to start with some REVISION: page 109 book.

A) Open your book at page 109. Do activities 6 and 7. You can  do them in your "digital book", but if you didn't take the trouble to  register, write the answers in your notebook. 

Once you've done the activities. Click HERE to check your answers.


B) Do activity 8 on this page. Again, do it on your digital book, or write the answers in your notebook. 
  After you have finished, please click HERE to listen to the text and check your answers.
        (How many correct answers did you get out of 8?)


C) Do activities 9 and 10. Do activity 9 in your notebook: write the whole sentences, not just the answers.
   As for activity 10: do it on your digital book, or in your notebook.

As soon as you finish these activities: Please, send a photo of your activity 9 to my email. Tell me how many points you got in each activity and how many points out of 45 you got  in the end? Also, please let me know if you need me to explain the answer to any of these activities.



2) We are going to learn/revise some vocabulary connected to SPORT: Go to page 90 of your book. 

A) Do activity 1 on page 90. Do it in you notebook: write two columns with the words in bold and with the words in colour that have a similar meaning.  Follow the example.

B) Do activity 2: Write the true sentences in your notebook (this way you will have a good definition of the words) and correct the false ones, without changing the words in colour (this way, you will also have a good definition of these words)

C) In activity 3, you are going to practise with these words/expressions IN CONTEXT.  Write the answers in your notebook. 

Once you have finished these activities, click  HERE to find the answers and check them. Try to be responsible. 


3) OPTIONAL. Just depending on how long it took you to do activities in 1 and 2, you might have time to do a LISTENING exercise on page 91 of your book.

Let's follow these steps:

1- CHECK HOMEWORK. Click HERE to find the answers to the activities on reported speech.


2- We are going to devote some part of our lessons until May, 22nd - when I will have to give you your results - to revision through activities. 
   
 Click HERE to find some activities on a worksheet. You can download it and do the activities on the worksheet, or you can write the answers in your notebook. You can check your notes or your book  if you need so. Keep track of your time: you shouldn't spend more than 40 minutes on this.

Once you have finished, find the answers HERE. Check and mark your activities. 
Click HERE only  if you need some explantions.

Send a photo of your checked/marked answers to my email as soon as you finish this activity.



3- Now we're going to have a look / revise SOME SPECIAL STRUCTURES on page 108 of your book: 
You can read the grammar chart on page 108.  You can click on the "grammar tutor" at the top of the page on your digital book and listen to some good explanation.
If you think you don't need extra explanations, just do the activities on page 108 of your book straightaway. 

If you need extra help, you can watch these videos.

In today's lesson we're going to deal with  REPORTING COMMANDS, REQUESTS, ADVICE.  

Follow these steps:

1) Find HERE a worksheet with commands, requests and advice to change into REPORTED SPEECH. 

If you remember how to do it, please skip the video and do the activity on the worksheet straightaway. Listen to the video only if you need an explanation on how to change commands, requests and advice into Reported Speech.




2) Let's try this activity now to have some practice:

Complete the sentences with the appropriate reporting verb in the list.
 Then rewrite the sentences in REPORTED SPEECH.

1-‘I won’t tell anyone your secret’, she ....................
2- ‘Don’t forget to check your email,’ he ..................... her.

We're going to start with UNIT 7 today.

We're going to focus on GRAMMAR, first of all, to make sure we cover all the essential grammar points this year. 

1- We are going to start with REPORTED SPEECH: STATEMENTS and TIME EXPRESSIONS


A) Find a worksheet HERE. Do you remember how to change the sentences into REPORTED SPEECH?

     You can download the worksheet and try to do it yourself.  
Or you can download the worksheet and do the activities on it while listening to this EXPLANATION:    



B) Do this activity to have some more practice:

REWRITE THESE SENTENCES INTO REPORTED SPEECH.
Pay attention to time and place expressions.
1- ‘I’m very happy to be here today,’ Christine told me.
2- ‘We’ve decided to get married!’ Sarah announced
3- ‘I’m visiting my cousins next week’, Mike told us
4- ‘I met James for the first time last year’, Patricia said.
5- ‘I must find out how to join’, she said
6- ‘It isn’t so cold today as it was yesterday’, the old lady pointed out.

Some interesting verbs that you can use to introduce STATEMENTS in REPORTED SPEECH:

3- Pay attention to your presentation. Your handwriting should be legible.

4- When you finish, scan your exam or take a "good" photo of it.

-Gerunds and Infinitives (Page 78 + video+extra-activities)
-Connectors of Purpose (Page 84 +video+extra-activities)

Good morning my dearest students!!



How are you geeting on? I hope you've already enjoyed your first outings and  I hope this fresh air and physical activity outside will give us "energy" to keep going. Come on!




Ready to start? Follow these steps: 

1) First of all, we're going to have a look at the last GRAMMAR ASPECT in  UNIT 6: GERUNDS and INFINITIVES:

     A) Watch this video with SOME EXPLANATIONS on the topic.



 B) Click HERE to find the NOTES.

C) Now, let's have some practice:

     1- Do activity 5 on page 58 of your book. Do it in your notebook.
          Click HERE to check. Try to be honest, your progress depends very much on you now.

     2- Click HERE to get an interesting worksheet with clear explanations + activities.

Do all the activities and try to collect your own NOTES on when to use GERUNDS or INFINITIVES. 


2)  After checking most of your “Informative Essays” I see that some of you need  practice with PURPOSE SENTENCES.  Let’s do an activity.

Combine each of the following pairs of sentences into one sentence using: to/ in order to / so as to/ where necessary.  For example,
1-My younger brother is saving all his pocket money. He is planning on upgrading his phone.
My younger brother is saving all his pocket money to (so as to / in order to) upgrade his phone.

2-Jessic has stopped using her credit cards. She doesn’t want to go over her budget.
Jessica has stopped using her credit cards in order not to (so as not to) go over her budget.

3-They talked in whispers. They didn’t want me to hear them.
They talked in whispers so that I couldn’t/wouldn’t hear them.

4-I’ m insuring my life. I want my children. I want my children to have something to live on when I die.
I’m insuring my life so that my children can/will have something to live on when I die.

IT IS YOUR TURN NOW:  Write it in your notebook.
1-I’m buying some paint. I want to paint my hall door.
2- He wore a false beard. He didn’t want anyone to recognize him.
3- Aeroplanes carry parachutes. They crew can escape in case of fire.
4- It’s a good idea to prepare a shopping list. You don’t forget to buy something.
5- He coughed. He wanted to warn them that he was coming.


I think this is all for today. Tomorrow we will do activites to revise UNIT 6. We will have an exam on this unit on Friday, the 8th.
