TUESDAY, 28th APRIL

Good morning everyone, 

I hope you're all doing well and are already used to learning/working from home


Let's start with today's lesson. Follow these steps: 

1) First of all, we're going to check homework: CONNECTORS OF PURPOSE (Pages 84-85 book)

Before we start, here is a summary of what we know so far:

1)  to + infinitive
He rushed into the burning house to save the child
 (= Entró corriendo a la casa en llamas para salvar al niño)
* to/so as to / in order to are also possible
2)  in order to/ so as to + infinitive  (with negative sentences / or with TO BE/ TO HAVE)
They studied hard so as not to / in order not to fail the exam.
(Estudiaron mucho para no suspender)
I’m saving up so as to / in order to have some extra money on summer holiday.
(Estoy ahorrando para tener dinero extra en verano)
3) so that  (clauses of purpose) + a sentence
I took off my shoes so that the baby wouldn’t wake up.

Please shut the window so that the rain won’t get in.
(Cierra la ventana para que no entre la lluvia)
4) FOR+noun  / FOR+gerund –general purpose of an object
Let’s meet for a drink 
A pencil sharpener is a tool for sharpening pencils.
(but.. I need a pencil sharpener to sharpen my pencil with)

Now we're going to check activities 3- 4  on page 85 of your book.

2) Now, we are going to learn/remember how to write AN INFORMATIVE ESSAY. 

  A) Let's start with a model. Read the informative essay about Ben & Jerry's on page 84 of your book and do activities 1 and 2 on this page.

  B) Go through this simple presentation.



  C) Choose ONE of the following and write an INFORMATIVE ESSAY (120-150 words)
       1- TASK on page 85 of your book (about a famous company)
       2- Write an informative essay about a charitable organisation (an NGO, for example) 

IMPORTANT: Do some research, select the information you want to include -don't just copy information, write a draft, improve it, write a clean version and send it.

Send it to my email in a word format if possible. DEADLINE: THURSDAY, 30th afternoon.  


3) REVISION ACTIVITIES.

I hope you're fresh and rested after the weekend and ready for a new week, which is a bit shorter, in fact, as Friday, 1st of May is a bank holiday!! 


Let's get down to work! Follow these steps: 


1) Let's check homework
   
      A) Click HERE to find the answers and script of the LISTENING ACTIVITY on page 82 of your book. 

      B) Click HERE to get the answers to the READING COMPREHENSION activity on your worksheet. 

2) We're going to do a MOCK EXAM on the passive voice. Allow yourself, if you need so, some revision before starting the exam. The intention of this activity is for you to ckeck if you have understood this grammar point. You can decide to use your notes while you're doing it or take it as a real exam. 
Keep track of your time. Click HERE to get the exam. 

Once you have finished, find the answers HERE. Get a red pen, check and mark your exam.

After checking and marking your exam:

Send me an email answering these questions. Be honest; otherwise, just please don’t bother to answer:
1-How long did you take to do the exam?
2-Did you check your notes while doing it? Did you do some previous revision?
3- Are you extremely satisfied, very satisfied, satisfied, not very satisfied or not satisfied at all with your result?
4-Do you think you need some more practice in this grammar point / more explanations?
5- If so, what do you find more difficult of it?


3) We are going to do a DICTATION. Do it in your notebook. Listen and write FIVE SENTENCES.

Welcome to our last English lesson in the week!



Let's follow these steps:


1) First of all, let's check HOMEWORK:

    A) Activity 7 on page 81 of your book. Find the activity in your notebook and get ready to check.  Click HERE to get the answers.

    B) Worksheet on PASSIVE VOICE activities. Click HERE to get the answers.


2) Now we're going to learn some COMMON EXPRESSIONS connected to MONEY.

A) Go to page 82 of your book. Write down the sentences in activity 1 in your notebook and be ready to complete them with expressions connected to money by listening to extracts from a radio programme:

B) What do these expressions mean? Do activity 2 on this page and try to decide.
                     

C) Do activity 3 on page 82 in your notebook in order to learn some more expressions connected to money

 Make sure you write all these expressions in your notebook. Remember that you can check their meaning in the glossary on pages 138-150 of your book


D) Let's do some extra activites now to practise with these expressions and UNIT 6 vocabulary.

3) LISTENING ACTIVITY. Go to page 82 of your book.
     - Activity 4 is a pre-listening activity. Think about it.
     - Read activity 5. Do the listening activity in your notebook. Click HERE to get the audio.
     - Allow yourself time to read activity 6. Click HERE to listen to the second part and complete the chart.
     - Read the questions in activity 7. Click HERE to listen and answer the questions.

1) First of all, we're going to CHECK HOMEWORK
     Activity 3 on page 80 of the book.
     Activity 5 on page 81 of the book.

2) If you need more practice with QUESTIONS in the PASSIVE VOICE, do the activity below. It is OPTIONAL
Do it in your notebook.
REWRITE THE PASSIVE QUESTIONS IN THE ACTIVE FORM, AND THE ACTIVE QUESTIONS IN THE PASSIVE:

1- Was the book written by a biologist?
2- Are scientists carrying out the experiment?
3- Have environmentalists discovered a new species?
4- Do they keep the animals in small cages?
5- Did they breed the panda in captivity?
6- Has anyone told you what happened?
7- Who designed  The Sagrada Familia?

3) We are going to learn a new structure in the PASSIVE today. We call it CAUSATIVE HAVE or HAVE SOMETHING DONE.

  A) Watch the video attentively. You might as well take notes in your notebook!



  B) We are going to do an activity from your book to practise with this structure: HAVE SOME DONE and check if you have understood it. 
    
       Do activity 8 on page 81. Do it in your notebook. Take your time. Work seriuosly!

1) First of all, we're going to check yesterday's activities on VOCABULARY.

Good morning and welcome back to our online lessons!

I hope you had time to relax and recharge batteries during Easter Holidays and I hope you're now refreshed and ready for our lesson today.  



Today, we are going to start with THIRD TERM'S CONTENTS:
 UNIT 6: Money Matters 



Follow these steps: 

1) Open your book at page 76. We are going to learn/remember VOCABULARY connected to THE ECONOMY.

    A) Do activity 1 in your notebook.  Write down whole sentences. Remember that the words in blue are the key vocabulary for your exams. Don't forget that you've got a good glossary on pages 138-150 of your book; in case you need to check the meaning of these words. 

    B)  Do activity 2. Write the statements 1- 8 in your notebook and decide which answer a or b is correct. Write only a or b
              Make sure you know the meaning of all these words and expressions.

    C) Do the quiz on pages 76-77 to find out how MONEY-WISE (=ahorrativo/a ) you are. Do it orally. Read the questions and tick the answers in your book. 

2) SPEAKING. Activity 4 on page 77. Answer the three questions in activity 4 about yourself and explain your answers. Include the expressions in the "Useful Language" box  and the vocabulary we have learnt in this unit.
     
Pay attention to these structures before you do the activity:


PREFERIRÍA:  I’d rather + infinitive without to  = 
                            I’d prefer +  to infinitive

I’d rather live in the country   =  I’d prefer to live in the country

PREFERIRÍA UNA COSA A OTRA:

I’d rather do something than (do) something else

I’d prefer to do something rather than (do) something else

PREFIERO:  I prefer + gerund /  I prefer + to infinitive

IMPORTANT:
After you answer the three questions in your notebook. Read them aloud and record your voice in your mobile phone. I'm trying to use the Moodle Platform. Upload your recording to the MOODLE.
